donate used eyewear to those in need

If you have eyeglasses lying around your home that are either unused or no longer needed, don’t toss them; consider donating them instead. Recycling eyewear is easy and can help improve the quality of life for children and adults living in low and middle income communities around the world.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Lions Clubs International has a partnership with the Walmart Corporation so that you can conveniently deposit your eyeglasses at any participating Walmart Vision Center. Note that the collection boxes are typically located near the entrances of the Vision Centers. Each month the staff in these centers sends all collected glasses to the nearest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.
  2. Snap a selfie inside of the Walmart Vision Center showing you recycling your glasses. These do not have to be TrueDark glasses – any pair of eyeglasses will do. 😎 Just be sure to use the hashtag #FrameItForward and tag @truedark on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter so that we see your post!
  3. As a “thank you” for donating your specs, we’ll send you a coupon code for 20% off a future order on truedark.com!

WHY RECYCLE YOUR BLUE LIGHT BLOCKING GLASSES?

  • Your used eyeglasses could help someone else feel and perform better. In the case of prescription lenses, they may be able to experience better eyesight too.
  • According to Lions Club International, most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • If there is not a Walmart location near you, you can also drop off your usable eyewear at Lions-sponsored collection boxes in your community. Typical locations include libraries, schools, community centers, places of worship, coffee shops, optometrist offices and other public locations where communities socialize and get together. For information specific to locations in your community, contact your local Lions club.
  • Any glasses you donate should be in gently used, good-to-excellent condition — no broken frames or missing lenses.
  • If you’re donating TrueDark glasses, note that the foldable cases that come with each pair are also reusable. So, if you no longer need your pair of TrueDark glasses, consider including the foldable case that goes along with it.
  • TrueDark branded eyewear boxes (the ones that they are shipped in) are recyclable too. If you opt not to donate the box along with your glasses, we do kindly ask that you proactively recycle it so that it doesn’t take up unnecessary space in a landfill.
